It’s Pulling Me In

November 9th, 2009 by Natalie

I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

I’ve wanted to be Amish since I was 12 years old.

Sometimes I feel the pull more than others.  Lately, that all-to-normal feeling to me is returning.

No, I don’t want to run off and join an ordunun just yet, but there is something so refreshing about the lifestyle.  To grow what you need, to make what you need, and need nothing else…well, I dig it.

Maybe it’s all the cooking I’ve been doing since C.’s been back home.  Maybe it’s all the clothes I’ve been making MM.  Maybe it’s just fall and the whole harvest thing.  Who knows.

What I do know is that I’m already planning next year’s garden.  And I’m already thinking about the additional things I’d like to can (like 21 cases wasn’t enough this year).  And I’m already thinking about more things to sew.

Sometimes I get so bogged down in the day-to-day world of materialism and bills and stress, that I forget there IS another way to live.  A simpler life.  A homemade life.  And during those times that’s when I feel the pull of that familiar feeling.

So, if I turn up missing in the next few days just look for MM and I on an Amish farm.  Or at the very least a compound full of hippies. And here’s MM in one of the latest things I’ve made for her–a turkey for my turkey.  On her ten month birthday.
