A certain little farm girl is under the weather today. Upset tummy and a fever that got as high as 102.5°. She rarely gets sick and even more rarely has a fever. The only “plus side” is that’s she been extra cuddly and we’ve spent hours looking at You Tube videos of her surprise(s) that are coming later this week. She’s even been practicing their names: Norman and Coco {yes, our cat is also named ‘Coco’ too–unfortunately, we can’t change our surprise’s name} and their names sound like “Nah-ma” and “Cuh-Cuh”. Preciousness.
Is the suspense killing you yet? I promise, you’ll find out about our surprises soon enough.
Now on to the nitty gritty of music city.
Condensed version: If you go to Nashville you *must* eat at Monell’s. There is no excuse. Eat there. The end.
Longer version: I asked around my sewing workshop of mostly native Nashvillians {is that a word?} to find out the best restaurant in Nashville. I was told over and over: Monell’s.
Located in Germantown in a great Victorian, it had me at ‘hello’.
We were told to get there at 5 o’clock when they opened or we’d have to wait for hours. And since the Grand Ole Opry started promptly at 7pm we made sure to be there when the doors opened…and there were still twenty people ahead of us.
{We didn’t have to wait to be seated, but Monell’s does have a fabulous courtyard area. MM loved the porch swing under the shade trees and was enthralled with the koi pond.}
The food is brought out bowl by bowl {with a basket for the fried chicken} and passed around the table. And unfortunately, this was one of those restaurants where the food was so good we just all dug right in. Meat loaf. Pork roast. Green beans. Squash casserole. Homemade pear preserves. The list goes on and on. All delicious. Especially this corn pudding. Wow.
And the biscuits and cornbread? Heart stopping {and artery clogging, ha!}.
And now my mouth is watering…too bad it’s 274 miles away {and yes, I just Google Mapped it}. Anybody wanna take a road trip?
