Yesterday we went and picked up five of our new hens. The other twelve will arrive at our post office in the middle of May–they’re coming from Texas. Two grown Silkies (the “furry” black and white ones) and three Ameraucana pullets (the young chicks who will start laying blue and green eggs in the summer). MM was so sweet and gentle with the chickens the whole time. I can just tell she is going to love them more and more as she gets older.
MM sitting on the chicken coop…with her play tractor, of course.
‘Look! There they are!’
She petted them so gently. I love this picture of their hands (with her grandfather).
Giving her new silkie hen a hug. And I love the hands in this one too with her great-grandmother.

So neat and precious how sweet he was with them.
Ack, I meant SHE. How sweet SHE was with them.
They ship birds to the post office?? Sad.
melissa,
oh, they’ll be just fine…they have something like a 95% success rate with it. it’s better than the alternative…sending them to a processing plant! haha
Yeah, I guess it isn’t as bad as it sounds but it just sounds sad…of course better than a processing plant!! They are pretty so I hope you guys enjoy them! I just couldn’t help but think about them being tossed around and scared so I guess you just have to love them extra when you get them…
so cute they are…both the chicks and the child. You dress her so much like a hild now…goodness!! I treasured the babyhood days of my Susan so much that I wanted her to look and dress like a baby as long as possible..same with our Granddaughters ! But MM looks just precious anyway…just don’t let her grow up too quickly, Nat….you can never get those days back. love ya, m
