MM loves climbing our stairs. If you miss her for more than ten seconds you can be assured that she is already five steps up and climbing.
And since we live an old house with high moldings, uneven walls, a very low and curvy bannister we have yet to find a gate for the bottom of the stairs. Which means we’re constantly either following her up as she crawls OR picking her up and taking her back downstairs…all to do it again in 30 seconds.
But we did find a gate that works at the top. It’s even been MM-tested and held up to her hanging on it and shaking it with her whole body. That peace of mind it gives me makes it worth it’s weight in gold in my opinion.
And yes, before you ask, MM is in her coat. We turn down the heat when we leave in the mornings and so I keep her coat on her when we come home at night ’til the house warms back up. Yes, I realize just how cheap that makes me sound.

Good to know … I left Libby “unattended” yesterday & she crawled up about 10 of our very, very steep steps so I definitely think it’s time to invest in some gates for the front of the house.
I am cheap too! Why heat a house with no one in it?
Good luck with finding a gate that works at the bottom of the stairs!
I don’t blame you a bit for turning he heat off…we turn ours off when we go to bed as neither of us can sleep with it going.
I do hope you can find a gate that fits..know that worries you. Maybe you could Google it nd see what shows up?
We live in an old house too, so I completely understand about leaving the coat on till the house warms up.
