She fell asleep on the bed as we were getting ready to go to dinner. I didn’t think much of it–she must’ve just been worn out from the pool that day. I dressed a lethargic baby and off we went. Afterall, we were in Florida and you don’t miss out on seafood just because the baby is asleep!
We were seated on a patio overlooking the harbor. There was only one other couple since we had to dine early to keep MM on the schedule she was used to–time difference or not. She started fussing in her stroller and I took her out to feed her and she ate an entire bottle while we ordered the delicious snow crab and munched on crackers. She started fussing again and I bounced her on my knee which is a trick that always works.
But not this time.
Right as the waitress brought out our food MM threw up. But not just any throw up, this one was of mammoth proportions. All over her dress, all over my shirt, shorts, and flip flops, all over the table, her diaper bag, and the patio floor. Eight ounces of formula, some pureed peas and carrots, and a little strawberry yogurt mixed in for good measure, were all expelled. I sat there stunned and unable to move.
Luckily C. came to the rescue and cleaned us up while I sat motionless, unable to move from the mess that was all over her and me. He took off her dress and she sat there in just her diaper. I did the best I could and dabbed at my now-stained clothes. I smelled of soured formula.
And then we did the thing I never, ever thought we would do.
We ate our dinner. And MM, who felt much better, watched the boats come into the harbor and smiled. This was a rite of passage for me.
Baby throw-up no longer scares me–I am officially a mom.

Sorry it happened but, Congratulations Nat ! You have now been officially delegated a full fledged Mom. There will be many more moments similar to this though—I have to warn you of that ! Hang loose and take it in stride-all 3 of you ! You are doing just great ! aunt margaret
That scares me so much!! But that is so great, and I hope that I can do that, as well.
HA, this made me laugh because the first time that happened with my niece was when I was with my sister, BIL and Mom out to dinner. My sister freaked but everyone else was relatively calm and we even continued to order and eat our Mexican since Ariyana was feeling much better
Hehe!! “Been there ..done that”…
Yep- welcome to the club. Brings back memories
Wait till you start getting peed and pooped on!
