I need to do this now or I will forget.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going to the beach with an (almost) five month old baby. The car ride alone made me nervous–plus the possibility that she hated all water not found in her bathtub, or that she would be terrified by sand, or get a catastrophic sunburn (unfortunately she has my pale-as-a-ghost genes), or she would get tired pretty quick of the one “toy” we brought (her Bumbo). And yes, it was hard. This wasn’t the carefree vacations C. and I have shared in years past where we had a backpack of clothes, a map, and a rental car. We didn’t spend hours on a deserted beach looking at the coconuts and iguanas, nor did we spend loads of time in an infinity pool that overlooked a rainforest with a 200′ waterfall. That being said this trip was fabulous and I’m so glad we got to experience the beach through our daughter’s eyes.
We decided on a 5 day/4 night trip and I’m glad we did. It was just enough time to be away from home and we were still able to keep out routine naps, feedings, and bedtimes on the same schedule even though we were in a different time zone. That consistency really helped MM enjoy herself though I must admit I felt weird going to dinner each night alittle before five o’clock their time. At least there were no waits!
We left at 3:30 on Wednesday morning which meant MM slept (basically) until 8. Which was fantastic since the alternative Sunday afternoon was quite scary–haha! Once we got down there it was rainy and pretty chilly for the beach so we vegged until later than afternoon. The condo–owned by my cousin A.–was perfect: ground-level, 10 steps from the pool, and 20 steps from the ocean. It had three large bedrooms and baths, beautifully decorated, and had such luxuries as a dishwasher! (I know that’s not a typical luxury to most, but considering we haven’t had a dishwasher since November 2007, trust me–this is a HUGE deal) We were able to wash our clothes in the unit too which meant we came back with *no* dirty clothes–how fabulous is that?!
In general, MM liked the pool more and more each day and didn’t mind the beach. We had one of those little beach tents for her to sleep in and that was really useful. Most of the our day however was spent on a pallet I made her on the floor playing. That’s where she learned to sit up by herself and worked on picking things up better. C. & I just spent time talking to her and playing. We had great seafood while there and just enjoyed our time as a family. This beach trip was definitely different then any I’ve taken in a long time, but it was so worth it. I can’t wait to show her these pictures one day of her in her zebra-print bathing suit floating around the pool in her giant turtle float. Preciousness.

it looks wonderful! Glad you had a good time.
Sounds like a great trip to me and a good time as well. I know MM loved playing in the sand and floating in the pool.Being in the water seems to relax them so much that their naps are welcome to them. She is truly a little baby doll that we all love and adore. Yep, Nat-she isn’t spoiled at all….all babies smell like that ! LOL !
loved the pics..all of you look great ! Love the couch !
